Here are 7 spots to catch fireworks in KC this weekend
The sky is set to sparkle this Independence Day with fireworks lighting up all corners of the metro. Some celebrations are going big, pairing pyrotechnics with food trucks and live music. Others are keeping it simple with just a lawn chair and a sky full of color. Whether you’re in it for the all-day fun or just the grand finale, here are seven spots to catch the Fourth of July magic in KC.
- Legacy Blast
Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is turning up the volume with Legacy Blast, a fireworks show that dances to the beat. Pack your blankets and chairs for a display seamlessly synced to 94.9 KCMO’s live music broadcast, alongside DJs, food trucks, face painting, balloon artists and inflatables. The event is free, but plan on arriving early because once parking fills up, the gates will close.

- Liberty
Bring your lawn chairs, yard games and snacks to Liberty Fest in the Northland for a night filled with face painting, balloon artists, inflatables and live music from KC’s very own, Lost Wax. Indulge in food trucks and a beer garden before the fireworks show caps the night off. A $10 parking pass is required for admission and available for purchase at the Liberty Chamber Office.

- Stars and Stripes Picnic
There’s nothing more patriotic than fireworks over the city skyline of America’s Heartland. The Stars and Stripes Picnic at the National WWI Museum and Memorial is Kansas City’s official Independence Day celebration, and it’s free to the public. Soak in performances from six artists, more than 20 food and retail vendors and a front-row seat to one of the city’s largest fireworks displays.

- Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular
Fireworks won’t be the only thing rocking at Overland Park’s Star Spangled Spectacular. This free event kicks off with patriotic tunes from the National Guard Band, rolling into high-energy sets from Superstar Mafia, Run With It and The Rock Gods. David Williamson will perform the National Anthem just before the fireworks finale. Visitors can enter Corporate Woods Founders’ Park anytime during the day, enjoy food trucks and are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and coolers.

- Leawood’s 4th of July Celebration in the Park
Leawood’s Celebration in the Park is a one-stop shop for Fourth of July fun. Cool down from noon to 6 pm at the Aquatic Center, then heat things up with food trucks and live music starting at 6 pm. There will be mechanical bull rides, rock climbing, inflatables, face painting, balloon artists, caricatures and more, all for free.
