KC Current Players To Open Pitchside Coffee Shop In The Crossroads This Month
After a year of operating their mobile coffee trailer, Pitchside, six KC Current players are bringing their brews to a permanent home in the Crossroads.
Their first brick-and-mortar café, also called Pitchside, will celebrate its grand opening August 31 (1819 Grand Blvd., KCMO). According to Pitchside co-owner and KC Current forward Kristen Hamilton, the new space is “spacious, comfortable, and very inviting.”
“It’s a nice open space with lots of windows and cool garage doors that we can open when the weather’s nice,” Hamilton says.
The teammates had originally hoped to open closer to the River Market near the CPKC Stadium, but when the Crossroads location became available, it was an opportunity they couldn’t refuse. Alongside Hamilton, the owners include teammates Elizabeth Ball, Vanessa DiBernardo, Mallory Weber, Desiree Scott and Hailie Mace.

The cafe will seat 60 to 75 customers and while you don’t need to follow the KC Current to enjoy the new Crossroads site, fans will appreciate the TVs regularly streaming soccer matches – especially during the team’s fall afternoon games.
The drink menu will feature Pitchside’s signature house blend, Game Day Grind, which customers can purchase at the cafe and at local retailers like Rally House and Hy-Vee, along with some single-origin coffees. Currently roasted by Post Coffee, Hamilton says the team hopes to begin roasting in-house in the near future.
The new menu has yet to be announced, but Hamilton says customers can expect to see pastries, a few hot food items as well as a “performance” drinks.
Pitchside will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 7 am to 2 pm. Although Pitchside’s mobile trailer allowed Hamilton and her teammates to directly connect with the community, she says the shop’s hours will require the help of a staff.
“With the hours of the coffee shop, it’s going to be very limited time that we will actually be able to be behind the bar,” says Hamilton. “We have a really awesome staff but there will be days for sure that we will be behind the bar or just hanging out in the coffee shop.”
