KC Parade of Homes returns with more than 300 builds and a new app

by Dawnya Bartsch

Spring is here, and with it comes one of KC’s longest-running traditions: the Parade of Homes.

Every spring and fall, the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City opens the doors to hundreds of newly constructed homes across the metro. The free, self-guided tour lets you wander through the area’s latest builds at your own pace, and it’s been a KC institution since 1947.

Running April 25 through May 10, this year’s spring showcase features 317 newly constructed homes across seven counties, built by 96 builders, making it one of the most expansive exhibitions in recent memory. And new this year is an app (on Google Play and Apple Store) that lets you save your favorites and map custom routes between homes.

Homes run the gamut from townhomes and villas to 55-and-over adult communities and single-family homes, with prices ranging from $300,000 to $3 million. All homes are open daily from 11 am to 6 pm, and admission is free.

On the design front, there are some trends worth checking out. Elegant arched doorways are making a comeback after years of clean lines, while bold light fixtures continue to be statement pieces. Richly colored interiors are also edging out the white and grey interiors that dominated the last decade.

Even if you’re not looking to buy, the Parade of Homes is a great time to browse for inspiration. For more info and a full list of homes, visit kcparadeofhomes.com.

This spacious kitchen in the house at Creekmoor, a Raymore golf course community, has custom cabinetry that perfectly matches the wood floor and a large island illuminated by dramatic chandelier-like lighting. The white quartz countertops and glistening white tile backsplash compliment the natural wood cabinetry, and the dangling, dramatic chandelier-like lightning hanging perfectly above creates a space that wraps everyday function in a sophisticated style. What makes this Creekmoor house feel as if you’re on vacation everyday are the oversized windows in the back that overlook the golf course, says Chad Buck of C&M Builders. “The ambience is incredible. You look out over a wide open space that is meticulously maintained,” says Buck, who has been building homes in the Creekmoor development for more than 25 years. “It’s a golf community with a large lake, club house and all the amenities you could want.” Photography provided.
