Cross Threaded Opening Reception
Kansas City Artists Coalition’s new textile exhibit, Cross Threaded, makes its debut, featuring works by 14 local artists. While the artists work with strikingly similar (and often recycled) materials, their approaches vary widely, from embroidery to soft sculpture to quilting and beyond.

Herbie Hancock
Jazz-fusion pioneer and living legend Herbie Hancock comes to KC. With a career spanning six decades, the pianist and composer got his start gigging in Chicago before joining trumpeter Miles Davis’ band. With a whopping discography of over 40 studio albums as a bandleader (not including the hundreds of albums he’s appeared on), Hancock helped introduce electric instruments like synthesizers and clavinets to jazz. Coupled with funky, danceable grooves, his innovations helped bring the genre back into the mainstream in the ’70s with his band Head Hunters, spawning classics like “Chameleon” and “Butterfly.”

Akon with Ne-Yo
R&B artist and producer Akon dominated charts in the 2000s with club hits like “Smack That” and “I Wanna Love You.” Following the release of his sixth studio album, Beautiful Day, the Senegalese-American artist (who is originally from St. Louis) stops at Morton Amphitheater on the “Nights Like This” tour. Ne-Yo—who is best known for his breakout single “So Sick”—co-headlines.

Intimate Apparel
Set in New York City in the early 20th century, Intimate Apparel follows an overworked Black lingerie seamstress who is left with little time for romance. Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, this tale of forbidden love is based on the life of the author’s own great-grandmother. In this Kansas City Actors Theatre production, ensemble member Chioma Anyanwu stars as Esther.

A Living Score: Searching for Charlie Parker
Kansas City’s legacy of legendary alto saxophonists starts with Charlie Parker, and renowned musician Logan Richardson is carrying it forward. Ahead of Bird’s birthday, Richardson pays tribute to the bebop legend—and other influential figures in the city’s jazz history—with this new, original production that “transforms the theater into a living composition where the score is written in real time.”

R&B and Ribs
This touring block party and cookout rolls into KC for an afternoon of R&B, barbecue and cold beverages. Tickets include one drink ticket and access to the full day of live entertainment for a dance-filled day party in the Power & Light District.

Hulaween
Some may think it’s a little early to be preparing for Halloween, but vintage store Hula Hoop disagrees. At the weekend-long shopping event Hulaween, gear up for the spooky season by browsing retro attire, spooky art and fall decor while sipping themed mocktails and cocktails.

Hot Country Nights: Tyler Hubbard
Hot Country Nights are back, bringing live music to the Power & Light District on Thursdays through August. This week, singer-songwriter Tyler Hubbard takes the stage. Although Hubbard is best known as the longtime lead singer of Florida Georgia Line, he’s been focused on his solo career in recent years, topping country charts with hits like “Park” and “Back Then Right Now.”

Mini Golf At The Museum
It’s back! Art Course offers an artist-designed mini-golf adventure within the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Play nine unique holes, each offering a creative spin on a masterpiece from the museum’s collection.
