Five Brunch Spots To Celebrate Mother’s Day In KC

by Nina Cherry

Still need a Mother’s Day brunch reservation? Consider this your reminder. From rooftop mimosas to art museum dining to classic brunch buffets, these five Kansas City restaurants are pulling out all the stops to treat mom.

Rye (10551 Mission Rd., Leawood & 4646 Mill Creek Pkwy., KCMO)

Rye is sure to impress with its elevated Midwestern comfort food. Whether you’re in the mood for perfectly crispy fried chicken served alongside french toast or a classic eggs benedict, you can’t go wrong. As always, the popular pies and cinnamon rolls made by pastry chef, co-owner and James Beard Award semifinalist Megan Garrelts will be on the menu.

Oil on Linen (4420 Warwick Blvd., KCMO)

Located inside the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, art enthusiasts will appreciate Oil on Linen. Owned and operated by Ted Habiger (the same force behind Midtown institution Room 39), the restaurant is celebrating Mother’s Day with a three-course, vegetarian-friendly prix fixe menu. Highlights include quiche Lorraine served alongside smoked trout and a green salad, seared salmon accompanied by an herbed beurre blanc and a lemon cake with local strawberries.

McGregor’s Butcher & Bistro (11300 W. 135th St., Overland Park)

Naturally, the carving station at this Overland Park butcher and eatery’s brunch buffet—which includes rosemary and porcini encrusted prime rib and honey glazed bone-in ham—is the main draw. The spread also includes sides like butterscotch whiskey glazed carrots and buttery mashed potatoes, plus typical breakfast fare like eggs, bacon, sausage and more. For those who prefer table service, McGregor’s is also offering a limited menu of omelets, pancakes, steaks and more for the occasion.

Blanc Champagne Bar (3835 Main St., KCMO)

As the name suggests, there’s no shortage of bubbly at this Midtown champagne bar. Blanc is offering two ways to celebrate Mother’s Day, but the rooftop Sun Club checks all of the boxes with a brunch buffet, mimosas, a floral arrangement, card and Polaroid photo keepsake. The establishment is also taking reservations for table service in the main dining room, which includes a menu of shareable small plates and plenty of sparkling cocktails.

Harvey’s at Union Station (30 W. Pershing Rd., KCMO)

Celebrate mom at Union Station with Harvey’s brunch buffet. The carving station features sliced ham and prime rib, while the hot bar offers an extensive list of options, from biscuits and gravy to belgian waffles to chicken picatta. The cold bar includes fresh fruits, salads, smoked salmon and shrimp cocktail. Finish with pastries before exploring the historic building.
