Eleven Things To Do In KC This Weekend, July 9—12
Here are eleven things to do in KC this weekend, July 9—12 including Elmiene, A Beautiful Noise and FIFA World Cup: Argentina vs. Switzerland.
Crossroads Night Market
Located blocks from FIFA Fan Fest, this neighborhood-wide festival showcases what KC’s arts district has to offer to locals and out-of-towners alike. Akin to a First Friday celebration, Crossroads Night Market welcomes over a hundred local makers and fine artists with a soundtrack of local bands.
July 10—12. Times vary. Crossroads Arts District.
FIFA Fan Festival
After months of buzz (and construction), the World Cup has finally arrived in Kansas City. If you couldn’t get your hands on tickets to a match, FIFA Fan Festival is hosting watch parties across the month-long festivities—complete with live music, food and drink. Held downtown on the lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, the festival closes out with headliner and KC’s own Tech N9ne. Admission is free, but passes must be reserved ahead of time.
June 11—July 11. Times and dates vary. National WWI Museum and Memorial.

A Beautiful Noise
Co-developed by Neil Diamond himself, this jukebox musical chronicles how the Brooklyn-born artist rose to rock royalty. In addition to the title track, the production is built around over two dozen of Diamond’s biggest hits like tried-and-true sing-alongs “I’m a Believer” and “Sweet Caroline.” So good!
July 7–12. Times vary. Starlight Theatre.

Elmiene
With an NPR Tiny Desk performance and a growing list of award nominations, British-Sudanese R&B artist Elmiene is quickly rising to prominence for his smooth, soulful vocals as heard on singles like “Mad at Fire” and “Someday.” The singer comes to KC in support of his debut solo album, Sounds for Someone. Singer-songwriter Jahson Paynter opens.
July 11. 8 pm. The Truman.
FIFA World Cup: Argentina vs. Switzerland
The World Cup quarterfinals are here. KC will host its final game of the tournament as Argentina and Switzerland face off in an intense knockout match. Argentina enters as the defending World Cup champion, but Switzerland is having a historic run in the global tournament, advancing to the quarter finals for the first time since 1954.
July 11. 8 pm. Kansas City Stadium (GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium).
Secret Rhythm Society
Set in an underground speakeasy, this new Quixotic production transports audiences to KC’s Jazz Age. Secret Rhythm Society’s multifaceted cast includes jazz singers, tap dancers, aerialists and more for an immersive show at a fitting venue—the Folly Theater. Also known as the Grand Lady of 12th Street, this historic venue got its start as a burlesque house over a century ago.
June 26—July 18. Times Vary. Folly Theater.
Derek Hough
Nearly twenty years ago, dancer Derek Hough joined the cast of Dancing with the Stars. After six wins (the franchise record) and four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography, Hough is now the show’s head judge. Beyond the primetime program, he’s appeared in movies, stage productions and penned a memoir, Lessons from a Life in Motion. Now, Hough embarks on his Symphony of Dance: Encore tour.
July 12. 7 pm. The Midland Theatre.
Mini Golf At The Museum
It’s back! Art Course offers an artist-designed mini-golf adventure within the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. Play nine unique holes, each offering a creative spin on a masterpiece from the museum’s collection.

“The World in Kansas City”
The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates the KC World Cup matches with its latest exhibition, “The World in Kansas City.” Representative not only of the global event but also of KC as a multicultural hub, the exhibit features a diverse array of artists with ties to the region. Curator Jessica S. Hong says the display aims to showcase “how we all belong to a shared, complicated and nuanced social and cultural fabric.”
