Fourteen Things To Do In KC This Weekend, June 4—7
Here are fourteen things to do in KC this weekend, June 4—7 including Jazzoo, KC PrideFest and Mrs. Doubtfire.
Shakey Graves
Austin-born indie-rocker Shakey Graves is known for his vulnerable and often understated songwriting. Blending blues, rock, country and more, the musician’s tour follows the recent release of his fifth studio album, Fondness, Etc. Singer-songwriter Wes Parker opens.

Jazzoo
The Kansas City Zoo’s annual after-hours party, Jazzoo, is one of the city’s most popular fundraising events. The “creative black tie” event is held the first Friday in June, and this Safari Soiree is sure to bring out all the party animals. Every year, thousands come to roam around the zoo and nibble on bites from hundreds of local food and drink vendors, as well as dance the night away with live music and entertainment provided throughout the venue.

Vaile Mansion Strawberry Festival
There’s nothing like sweet, in-season strawberries to commemorate the early days of summer. Enjoy a family-friendly day of antique vendors, fruity treats, live music and more.

Clock Tower Landing Grand Opening Farmers Market
After 18 months of construction, the Overland Park Farmers Market has completed a $34 million renovation. The new indoor pavilion, designed with heating, is a major upgrade that will enable the market to continue operations year-round, even throughout winter. This weekend, shop for fresh cheeses, pasture-raised meats, moist zucchini breads, homemade jellies and more at Clock Tower Landing’s first market.

KC PrideFest
Pride Month is here, and the metro is celebrating at KC PrideFest. Located at Frank A. Theis Park, just across the street from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the three-day festival features a robust lineup of local bands, drag queens, informational sessions, a vendor fair and more. On Saturday morning, the festival’s colorful, annual parade kicks off in Westport at 11 am, marching south toward the festival grounds.

Mrs. Doubtfire
A musical adaptation of the classic 1993 comedy starring Robin Williams, Mrs. Doubtfire follows a divorced dad posing as an elderly housekeeper in an attempt to spend more time with his children. With plenty of quick costume changes, upbeat numbers and laughs, this Broadway production turns the ruse into a buoyant song and dance.

The Rainmakers
Throughout the 1980s and 90s, rock band The Rainmakers painted a portrait of what life in middle America looked like—and it made for a string of hits. Originally from KC, the group’s debut self-titled album held a spot on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart for five months and became even more popular throughout Europe, especially in the United Kingdom and Norway. Although The Rainmakers have broken up and reformed a couple of times over the past four decades, the band is back together, set to perform hits like “Let My People Go-Go” at the East Bottoms institution Knuckleheads.

Mini Golf At The Museum

The walk—which attracts nearly 1,000 fans—is a quilting show-and-tell, hosted by local shops, that includes demos and giveaways for quilters and non-quilters alike. An array of quilts from vintage to modern day quilts will be on display, and each shop will be handing out free quilt block patterns to make the festival’s annual quilt, designed by Walters.

Coffee Club At Central Park
Each Thursday morning throughout the summer, families can enjoy the fresh air in Zona Rosa’s Central Park while the kids play at the playground and splash fountain, along with rotating pop-ups and activities. “The World in Kansas City”
The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art prepares for this summer’s World Cup matches with its latest exhibition, “The World in Kansas City.” Representative not only of the global event but also of KC as a multicultural hub, the exhibit features a diverse array of artists with ties to the region. Curator Jessica S. Hong says the display aims to showcase “how we all belong to a shared, complicated and nuanced social and cultural fabric.”
